Modern technology has made it more convenient than ever to achieve the smile of your dreams, especially if that involves straighter teeth! For those that don’t want to be committed to the metal brackets and wires of traditional braces,  Invisalign treatment is a wonderful orthodontic solution. With their clear, removable aligners, the process is discreet, comfortable, and effective. However, it does require a few changes to your usual routine and habits so your pearly whites can move into their desired position on time. Here are four tips to prepare for your upcoming Invisalign treatment!

#1: Practice Your Oral Hygiene Routine After Each Meal

One of the main changes in your habits when undergoing Invisalign treatment will be your dental routine. It will be essential to brush and floss your teeth after every meal. If not, your aligners will trap food particles against your teeth for a long period of time, increasing your risk of cavities. The aligners covering your pearly whites will not allow your saliva to naturally wash debris and bacteria away so it will be up to you! Before you begin your treatment, you can start getting in the habit of cleaning your teeth as soon as you are done eating, even if you are at a restaurant or other social setting. Once you’re wearing your aligners, your new routine will feel normal and comfortable for you.

#2: Minimize Your Snacking

Once you begin Invisalign, you’ll have to remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything except water. To make this transition smoother, it’s a good idea to start limiting how often you snack. The more you fulfill the required wear time of 20-22 hours a day, the quicker the treatment process will be. In order to keep you fuller for longer periods of time, try opting for more fiber-rich foods, such as fruits, veggies, and nuts. In addition, add more protein to your diet, like lean meats and fish.

#3: Collect Helpful Supplies

Your dentist will provide you with aligners and a storage case. They may even give you helpful tools like Invisalign chewies, which will allow your aligners to fit onto your teeth properly. You can buy additional ones if need be. You may also want to invest in other appliances like a Pultool, which assists in the removal of difficult trays. Additionally, as your teeth grow accustomed to your trays, investing in some over-the-counter pain relievers can help minimize any sensitivity.

#4: Get Your Dental Kit Together

Nothing can beat preparation when beginning a new journey. To keep your treatment on track and keep your aligners safe, you’ll need to always have a small kit filled with your needed supplies nearby. Choose a small bag and fill it travel-sized dental products, such as a mini-toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss. You can also keep all the other helpful tools mentioned above in it. You will be ready to care for your smile wherever you go!

While there may be some adjustments that need to be made when undergoing Invisalign treatment, a little preparation beforehand will make the transition more effortless. Before you know it, you’ll be enjoying your new, straight smile!
